Technical Lead - Mechanical Design Engineer
Thales India Engineering Competency Center is seeking a Lead Mechanical engineer to be part of its Hardware engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the Mechanical design and associated engineering activities of various Thales Test Bench products and accessories catering to high performance Optronics products compliant to the customer requirements and applicable industry standards (MIL-810, DO-160, etc..).
Qualification & Experience:
BE / B. Tech in Mechanical engineering with minimum 8 or 10 years of relevant experience.Working experience in Defense systems design is an added advantage. Experience in Automotive / Aerospace / Telecommunications is acceptable.Competency / Skill:
Hands on experience: Successfully executed at least one project and currently working or worked within last 2 months in the relevant area.Knowledge: Exposed to the topic and has a Good understanding of it and its applicability in design. Should have referred the data in the current project or in a project with in last 6 months.Hands on experience in the following
Requirements management (definition/analysis/finalization) for Test bench / Test equipment systemsMechanical architecture definition of 19” Rack systems and Rack mounted equipment’s.Electronics packaging design: Sheet metal and machined type. PCBA Mechanical definition.Materials and finish process selection for metallic structures.COTS (Commercial off the shelf components) selection: Example – Rack system and accessories, Fasteners, Connector, Seal / gasket, Adhesive, Thermal interface material (TIM), Fan, Dampers, Etc.Implementing DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for assembly), Design for EMI / EMC and Design for environmental requirements.Tolerance stack up analysis, ISO GPS / ANSI 14.1Thermal calculations (One dimensional heat transfer) for electronics design, Fan calculations (CFM)CAD Tool : CREO (For 3D CAD design and 2D CAD drafting)Knowledge in the following
MIL-810 and / or DO-160 Environmental conditions and test procedures.EMI / EMC concepts in the mechanical design of electronic equipment’s.IPC or equivalent standards relevant to PCB / CCA design.Machining (Traditional and / or specialized) and sheet metal fabricationAluminium, steel alloys used in electronic enclosure and associated accessories designREACH & RoHS material compliance.Thermal / Structural / Vibration / Shock analysis requirementsConfiguration management of design data (Engineering change request, Document revisions, part numbering, etc.).Responsibilities
The candidate shall own and successfully execute on time, the listed (not limited to) mechanical engineering and allied activities.Collaborate (Local and Global) with multidisciplinary teams (Electronics, Reliability, Industrialization, Manufacturing, Project management, Quality, Etc.) to design, qualify and realize the product. Derive and manage mechanical activities estimation and schedule for the project. Manage mechanical requirements. Define Mechanical architecture, design and develop mechanical systems / sub-systems compliant to the requirement specifications. Comply with applicable organization specific product design and development processes. Select suitable Material and finish process and COTS (Commercial off the shelf components) items. Ensure compliance to the followingDFM (Design for Manufacturing),DFA (Design for assembly),Design for Environmental considerations (Vibration, shock, Fluids susceptibility, Temperature conditions, Altitude / pressure, Water proofness, Corrosion, etc.)Design for EMI (Electromagnetic interference) / EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility) considerationsGenerate and manage the following design data for applicable product configurations.3D CAD data.2D CAD manufacturing drawings.Product BOM (Bill of Material).Configuration management of design data (ECO, PR, Etc.) Perform following mechanical analysis as required.Weight analysisTolerance analysisMaterial compliance analysis (REACH / RoHS)Perform following engineering justification as required to verify the design.Thermal calculations (One dimensional heat transfer calculation, CFM calculation)Structural calculations (Example: Simple beam bending, weld strength etc.)Collaborate with Analysis engineer for various software-based analysis (Thermal / Structural / Vibration / shock etc.) of the design.Supply necessary design data and boundary conditions to perform analysisInvolve in technical discussion to validate the analysis results.Contribute to necessary project reviews (PDR: preliminary design review, CDR: Critical design review, etc.) Collaborate with external partners (Component suppliers, Test laboratories, other service providers, Etc.) for successful design, analysis, testing (Qualification) and Manufacturing.
