Team Lead Technical Publications - GM Defense
Job Description

Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

GM Defense is looking for a highly motivated individual to take on the role of a Team Lead - Technical Publications for military and dealership publications. The technical publication team lead will be responsible for leading a team of writers & illustrators in the creation of Military Standard (MIL-STD) and / or contractor format operators & maintainers manuals. This lead will also be responsible for interfacing and collaborating with third-party publication partners and GM Defense engineering to ensure accurate and timely delivery of MIL-STD manuals to the GM Defense customer.

What You’ll Do

Manage a team of technical writers and illustrators who create repair and diagnostic service manuals for military technicians as well as GM dealership technicians.Create and manage reports to track manual completeness as well as to ensure accuracyCreate validation plans for on vehicle validations to ensure the highest level of qualityConduct an analysis of designs and maintenance-related data necessary to author and coordinate illustrations and parts data for technical manuals, briefings, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment and systems.Study engineering sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samplesConsult with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather the necessary information to generate Operator Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and Repair Parts and Special Tool Lists (RPSTLs) for ground vehicles, systems, and equipmentResponsible for technical accuracy and conducting internal validationSupport logistics demonstrations and customer verification activitiesGenerate manhour estimates to complete specific manual deliver requirements

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

5 years of relevant work experience and high school diplomaAbility to read and interpret technical drawings (models, blueprints, schematics, hydraulic, and pneumatic flows).Experience writing for Diesel automotive, heavy-wheeled vehicles or relateKnowledge of logistics, systems, subsystems, and components related to the operation and maintenance of heavy and/or medium duty ground vehicles, systems, and equipmentProven mechanical or electrical aptitudeProven results-oriented performance with excellent problem-solving abilities, decision-making, and organizational skills, as well as the capability to adapt to changeStrong initiative and ability to organize daily tasks for your team with minimal supervisionFast learner with the ability to pick up new concepts and technology quicklyStrong communication skills (oral and written)Strong editing skills and the ability to provide editing rationale to customersComfortable working in teams and independentlyExperience creating training documentationAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)The applicant must be able to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization. Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire.

Bachelors degreeExperience writing to two-level DoD maintenance conceptExperience with Arbortext XML Editor and DoD IADS softwareExperience with XML tagging and authoring in XML using MIL-STD-2361 Document Type Definitions (DTDs), and with MIL-STD-40051-1B/C, MIL-STD- 40051-2B/C, or MIL-STD-38784

This job may be eligible for relocation benefits. 

This position requires eligibility to access classified information at the Secret U.S. Security Clearance level for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. The successful candidate must have eligibility to access classified information at that level.
