We're looking for a Tax Analyst based at our head office in Karachi, Pakistan. Bring us your curiosity and a desire to challenge the everyday routine, and we’ll give you lots of responsibility. You’ll help us improve, inject innovation and build new ways of working that span the whole world.
PURPOSE
Support the relevant processes which are critical to developing & maintaining compliance with PMI policies for taxation, tax reporting for US GAAP, keeping up to date to changes in tax laws and regulations. Ensuring that all statutory requirements are timely and accurately followed.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. PREPARATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PMI COMPLIANCE PROGRAMS AND RISK ASSESSMENT
Liaise with the regional tax team and implement compliance policies and programs for direct and indirect taxation (Income tax, VAT and Excise), where gaps in processes exists. Major responsibilities include GAP analysis, training, procedural changes and ensuring that the company is fully compliant to local statutory requirements and PMI compliance programs. Conducting periodic risk assessment of indirect taxation under Indirect PMI Compliance Program (Income tax, VAT and Excise). Also responsible for replying to queries related to PMI Tax Compliance programs from the factories, warehouses and various departments. Responsible for ensuring that statutory requirements are adhered and tax legislations are rigorously followed. Also includes liaising with consultants for finalization of tax matters. Further also includes assisting Manager Tax in any queries raised by tax authorities with respect to return and matters related thereto.
2. MONTHLY AND ANNUAL COMPUTATION AND GMRB REPORTINGS
Preparation of monthly Income Tax and Deferred tax computation for the purpose of month end closing and submissions of annual and monthly GMRB reports. Responsible for ensuring that corporate tax return is timely prepared, reviewed and filed with tax authorities. Also include liaising with PWC auditors for finalization of tax matters.
3. TAX AUDITS / MONITORING AND OTHER TAX MATTERS
Co-ordination with different departments for compilation of information requested in audits, monitoring or any other query raised by tax authorities. Also include monitoring of pending tax issues/audits/monitoring on regular basis, resolving any issue raised by the authorities and regularly updating team of status of pending matters and thus contributing to the favorable results of tax matters. Includes assisting Manager Tax in discussions with tax authorities to explain to them the issue along with corroborative evidences to defend the company’s position.
Also includes assisting Manager Tax in proposing amendments/changes to be made in legislation in order to protect vital interests of the company. Ensure better coordination between departments on tax related issues to ascertain compliance and also to improve customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
4. TAX SAVING/CASHFLOW SAVING
Ensuring that for any tax saving/cash flow saving opportunity identified, timely action is taken, including preparation of request letter, coordinating with tax authorities and ensuring that it’s received timely so that PMPKL continues to avail benefits. Includes regular visits to tax authorities and resolving the routine matters and keeping the team aware with respect to the status of different pending tax matters and ensure better coordination with tax authorities on tax related issues.
5. SOX COMPLIANCE
Ensuring that SOX requirements are rigorously followed and prepare tax reconciliations and schedules as required for SOX compliance and liaising with PwC for audit of SOX controls for taxation.
6. TAX ADVISORY
Advise and render practical assistance to relevant departments for advisories related to pricing, complex tax transactions, exports, imports and withholding tax implications by following all the legislative acts in the taxation and ensuring that all the transactions are performed in compliance with local tax regulations. Also include identifying changes in the tax legislation and their potential impact on transactions and activities of the company with the purpose to contribute to the smooth functioning of the business.
7. STATUTORY PAYMENTS
Ensuring that statutory payments are timely and accurately made and follow the requirements of law and thus avoiding the situation of any adverse inference drawn against PMPKL. Reviewing of calculation shared by concerned departments on account of Professional Tax, Tobacco Cess and Tobacco Development Cess. Also responsible for updating relevant stakeholders the changes introduced in statute for strict compliance.
Ensuring that working for stamp Duty liability on PO’s is timely prepared and liability is discharged on time so that there is no non-compliance on part of PMPKL and also include providing all the relevant support for annual stamp duty audit.
8. TRAININGS
Training of relevant stakeholders at Head Office and factories to update them with respect to various income tax and sales tax withholding implications as well as applicable excise laws. Ensure compliance of local and PMI requirements as mentioned in compliance program. Ensuring that any change in tax legislation is properly communicated to the concerned individuals and implemented timely.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
EDUCATION
- ACCA, CA or BBA/MBA (Finance)
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 1 to 3 years of experience (with at least 1 year in Tax)
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of Pakistani tax law
- Knowledge of excise laws
- Knowledge of Accounting and Finance
- Fluent written and verbal English language skills
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Curious mindset and positive attitude. Self-starter.
- Action oriented with problem solving approach
