KBR has a need for an energetic and dynamic Systems Engineer (SE) to join its talented team in Sioux Falls, SD. KBR is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary staff, focusing on planning, development, and integration of the data management, processing, archiving, and distribution capabilities of remote-sensed data from the location at EROS and in the cloud.

The System Engineer (SE) will perform all facets of systems engineering to support the USGS Landsat Data Processing and Archive System. The candidate will evaluate new applications, system requirements, developments in field of expertise, and evolving business needs to recommend appropriate solutions and alternatives. Under general direction, uses specialized knowledge or skills to solve complex and unique problems, or direct the daily activities of a development team. Establishes priorities for the completion of assigned tasks. Uses judgment to interpret internal and external issues and develop best practices. May direct resources and provide guidance to less experienced team members. Relies upon experience, interpersonal skills, and broad knowledge of field to ensure task completion in compliance with policies, procedures, and business strategy. Innovative thinking, along a broad and diverse team, makes this position exciting and rewarding. This role is primarily on-site, allowing for the full collaboration with our customer and team. We are open to discussing some consideration for remote work as part of our employment package.

Three years of continuous residency in the U.S. for issuance of a Government Security credential



Education:  Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or equivalent

Experience:  Minimum 5 years system engineering experience

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements

Responsibilities:

Work closely with other Systems Engineers, Software Engineers and larger design teams to deliver hybrid-cloud solutions in a FedRAMP high environmentProvide leadership and guidance on engineering aspects of the development and integration of multiple applications through system analysis and design, system integration and test, and decision analysis and resolutionCoordinate, communicate, and provide technical status to other team members, TSSC management team and government customersPrepare and present materials for project milestone reviews to a diverse group of stakeholdersWork with end users to understand needs and translate into system requirements and designPlan, execute, and report status of software releases of varying complexity through the full Software Development Life CycleLead and perform updates to project documentation such as interface documents, test plans, test cases, and other documentation

Required Skills:

Experience working with or architecting Cloud solutionsExperience with the full Software Development Life CycleAbility to understand and write requirements, operational concepts, interface control documents, integration and test plans, test cases, and other documentationAbility to plan and manage scope, schedule, and budgetAbility to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to explain technical details and issues clearly to non-technical individuals and be able to explain system concepts and problems clearly and conciselyAbility to lead and interface effectively with other engineering staff of a multi-disciplined team, including strong interpersonal and team skillsStrong verbal communication and writing skillsAbility to participate in generation and presentation of milestone reviews 

Desired Skills:

Ability to conduct trade studies for technology upgrades, hardware options, and softwareExperience in image processing, data archiving systems, database management and design, software development, etc.Experience using DOORS, Jira, and ConfluenceExperience with Agile development lifecycleAWS Solutions Architect Associate or other AWS certifications

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Three years of continuous residency in the U.S. for issuance of a Government Security credentialThe candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account
