The Staff Software Engineer drives technical excellence and innovation across our organization. 

This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, focusing on architecting 

scalable solutions while fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.

About the Calendar Platform Team: 

Modern HR and payroll systems are full of date-driven events: time off, shift schedules, payroll deadlines, holidays, compliance tasks, and more. But too often, these critical timelines are scattered across disconnected tools, creating confusion for employees and friction for businesses.

At Paylocity, the Calendar Team is building the foundational time layer that brings it all together.

We own the central Calendar infrastructure that powers experiences across our entire product ecosystem. Our platform will be used by dozens of internal teams and millions of end-users.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field Minimum 8 years of software engineering experienceProven track record of leading significant technical initiatives

Technical Experience:

8+ years hands-on experience with application developmentReactJS for front-end (or experience with a comparable framework, and at least knowledge of ReactJS)Strong knowledge of front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS and ReactJS.NET C# for back-end (.NET experience is preferred, but not a strict requirement if the candidate can pick it up quickly)Experience developing highly interactive and responsive applicationsSolid understanding of modern API standards and conceptsExperience with MongoDB, SQL, or other databasesExperience with unit testing, integration testing, and test automationAbility to work effectively in an agile, cross-functional teamCommitment to the role and ability to take responsibility for assigned tasksPassion for writing clean, maintainable, and efficient codeStrong software architecture design skillsStrong problem-solving skillsStrong sense of curiosityAdaptability to new technologies

Nice to Have experience:

Familiarity with cloud services (AWS preferred)Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practicesKnowledge of observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, Prometheus, etc.)Experience developing mobile components using React 

Physical requirements: 

Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day. Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.
