Job Overview

 

The Connected Living Solutions business unit is currently seeking a highly motivated SR Manufacturing Development Engineer to join our Global Manufacturing and Development Engineering Team. The team is comprised of process leaders for stamping, molding, packaging and assembly, ensuring the processes are optimized for quality, output, and cost. They are experts in mold tooling, stamping dies, packaging fundamentals, and assembly techniques, even possessing extensive knowledge of associated manufacturing processes such as plating and machining. The Manufacturing Development Engineering Team enables the CLS plants to reach TE Operating Advantage (TEOA) milestones, achieve conversion and material productivity metrics, and drive best practices around the Centers of Excellence (COE) deployed benchmarks. They design and develop manufacturing processes and apply them for the realization of new product introductions as well as the optimization of industrialized products. The team also supports Product Development in the selection and optimization of tools for piece part production and the selection of the most suitable manufacturing concepts related to planned manufacturing quantities, quality requirements and manufacturing location. They act as the interface between engineering and production to ensure manufacturability of new designs and smooth production ramp up, as well as support the research & development teams to produce sample manufacturing equipment, product samples and prototypes.

 

What you will be doing...

 

Serving as a consulting technical resource for our plants on complex internal / external molding processes, tooling, quality, and capacity concerns.   Supporting a material’s testing lab through the process development of new platform materials and leading investigations into problematic resins.  Assisting with the identification and implementation of new molding technologies into our global footprint Supporting TE Best and Molding CoE activities as well as recommending and implementing innovative practices across multiple manufacturing sites.   Using data driven analytical problem-solving techniques such Six Sigma, DMAIC, 8D, etc. to determine root cause of molding opportunities with recommended solutions, driving improved process capability.  Working with Supply Chain and Procurement teams on sourcing new molds and supporting external supply base as necessary. Collaborating with Product Development Engineering to ensure designs meet cost objectives and are driven by design for manufacturability principles. Providing molding expertise to several assigned New Product Development projects while ensuring key deliverables are met per project schedules, including the transfer of molding tooling to production. Documenting all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems. Participating in and leading PFMEA reviews around molding processes.  Analyzing yield and process data to drive process optimization strategies. Driving productivity initiatives, both material and conversion, to ensure critical business metrics are met.
  What your background should look like:

Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Plastics, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, advanced degree a plus. Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience working within the manufacturing engineering discipline or molding operations.   Ability to utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Moldex3d software to support mold/tooling design reviews. Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of lean manufacturing.  Advanced knowledge of Scientific Injection Molding (RJG Master Molder 1 desirable) and tooling designs for thermoplastics. Familiarity with automation and robotics associated with molding processes. GB or BB in Lean Design for Six Sigma preferred but not required. Capability to work in a fast paced, dynamic global environment with multiple changing priorities. Proficient in MS Office Software such as Excel, MS Teams, and PowerPoint. Knowledgeable in statistical software packages such as JMP and Minitab is desirable but not required. Demonstrated ability to work within a cross-functional team. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels within and outside of the organization. Ability to work towards completion of projects within defined schedules. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize a rapidly changing set of objectives. SAP experience is desirable but not required.

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $102,600 – 153,900 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
