Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan on a full-time basis.
The Role
We are seeking a Site Utility Manager who will ensure all utilities (electrical, water, fire, steam, condensate, storm) are supplied to the GM Technical Center. This role involves monitoring and optimizing energy and water usage efficiency, responding to emergency situations as the site SME, and overseeing the steam plant team, chilled water plant, and Skylark systems. The Site Utility Manager will be the primary contact for communication and scheduling all work with DTE and the City of Warren Water Department.
What You'll Do
Oversee Steam Plant Operations Team and Chilled Water Plant
Deliver all quality and reliable site utility systems including but not limited to steam, compressed air, condensate, water, electric, and gas
Support Emergency Response Plan coordination with Security, Fire Prevention, Safety, and key stakeholders (Emergency Response Coordinating Team and Emergency Group Coordinators)
Aid in the maintenance strategy planning for the Steam and Chilled Water Plants - GM UAW and 3rd Party
Interface and coordinate with local businesses, utility providers (DTE, Consumers, City of Warren, etc.) and regulatory agencies as required
Coordinate activities of all site utility management
Ensure all job responsibilities and reporting are completed on time
Act as single point communication with Utilities (Water, Natural Gas, Electricity)
Prepare and monitor site utilities budget
Present utility performance status to management monthly
Support labor relations activities
Develop an understanding of Par 183 and Doc 159
Participate in the interview process for UAW trades hiring
Engage in skilled trade subcommittees during local negotiations
Organize, monitor, and provide “real time” feedback to the SITE for downtime plans
Track and improve the efficiency of powerhouse equipment (e.g., chillers, compressors, boilers)
Support initiatives focused on energy reduction, water reduction, utility reliability, and infrastructure assessments
Assist in the site implementation of continuous improvement process for utility services, addressing interruptions, safety, and environmental violations
Forecast fuel consumption, Natural Gas, Electricity, Compressed Air, and Potable Water
Execute audits, monitoring, and inspections of maintenance performed on site infrastructure and utility-related systems, including all required log sheets, metering equipment and other related equipment
Develop site utility budgets to meet cost objectives, utilizing GM2100 for utility tracking, forecasting, and monthly cost approvals
Oversee the Utility Shutdown Request (USR) system for the site
Manage holiday shutdown plans

Additional Job DescriptionWhat You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy, or related field
5 or more years of experience in Plant Engineering, Maintenance, or Energy
Possess knowledge of management systems related to utilities and maintenance operations
Technical expertise in utilities to enable efficient problem-solving and innovation in technical projects
Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations to ensure a secure working environment
Skilled in diagnosing and resolving issues by identifying root causes, developing effective solutions, and implementing fixes to restore functionality and optimize performance
Proficient in collecting, processing, and interpreting data to inform decision-making
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed
Demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas, actively listen, and effectively influence others to achieve favorable outcomes
Proven aptitude to evaluate options, anticipate outcomes, and choose the most effective course of action
Bring a positive attitude and high-energy to tasks and interactions to help motivate team members and foster a productive work environment
Talented in identifying challenges quickly and accurately, while approaching them with a solution-oriented mindset to minimize disruptions
