At the direction of the Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS) business at the Toronto Region Operations (TRO) site The PDS Director will be tasked with delivering exemplary client service to maximum benefit for the company in a sustainable manner.
How will you make an impact:
As a member of the PDS Senior Management Team within PDS North America you will actively participate in developing client relationships and sale of services.
Set strategy and direction for the PDS organization in alignment with Thermo Fisher’s vision and goals.
Lead, develop and grow the PDS TRO business.
Interact with key clients and provides resolution to customer issues and concerns while cultivating a customer focused organization.
Meet or exceed planned revenue and profitability targets.
Collaborate with PDS NA Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members to help manage PDS NA business and resources most effectively across sites.
Ensure the flow of new business to the site.
Establish and report PDS KPIs to monitor the business and respond to underperformance of On Time Delivery and Right First Time.
Define strategies which mesh with the rest of PDS.
Identify and resolve local issues which impede the growth of PDS at TRO.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to meet annual value capture targets.
Identify talent to assure a proper succession plan, to act as role model in compliance with Thermo Fisher values.
Proactively share internally and with other sites in the Thermo Fisher network best practices, lesson learned.
Guide staff to achieve tactical and strategic business goals; responsible for results including costing, methods, and staffing.
Promote a safe working environment, report potential hazards, and ensure all direct reports follow Environmental Health and Safety procedures.
Select, develop, and evaluate staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Work with and advise staff on administrative policies and procedures.
How will you get here:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required in Sciences such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Pharmacy. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Experience:
Minimum 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience preferably in product development or contract manufacturing
Minimum 5 years of pharmaceutical product development or product transfer experience.
Minimum 5 of years experience in a Leadership role with multiple direct reports.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in dealing with all levels within the organization.
Advanced presentation skills, at a level to make presentations to senior executive/board level.

Ability to drive functional, technical, and operational excellence. Ability to inspire and foster innovation, collaboration, transparency, and team effectiveness.
Budget development and management experience.
Thorough understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated project management abilities with a strategic focus. Demonstrable experience in establishing relationships with prospective and new clients.
Conveys a clear vision of the function and value of PDS at the site, and of the way PDS can enhance its services to the Pharmaceutical and related industries.
Strong ability to apply and demonstrate scientific knowledge for commercial value.
Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English Language.
Standards and Expectations:
Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Work collaboratively with fellow team members, modelling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives. Carry out all duties within strict compliance to quality systems SOP's and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.
Physical Requirements:
Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits, or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator on occasionally.
