Senior Software Engineer

This role in the News Technology Group builds tools that support Reuters' award-winning journalists. As AI advances, it promises to bring significant efficiencies to news production.

The position will deal with incorporating AI capabilities in our Editorial tools and processes, enabling journalists to realize these efficiencies and provide greater insight over a broad range of topics.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Senior Software Developer, you will:

Participate in project/work planning sessions to analyze requirements.Contribute to requirements gathering, in collaboration with capability/product and/or business owners.Develop and integrate applications per written specifications. May be responsible for writing design specifications and architectural diagrams.Translate technical requirements into application code and modules.Make modifications to existing applications and modules in accordance with written specifications.Unit test and implement application modules they have developed or modified, ensuring application meets needs of business.Take part in reviews of own work and the work of colleagues.Support operational teams with system maintenance, such as upgrading, fall back, troubleshooting, etc.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Senior Software Developer if your background includes:

A passion for evaluating and adopting new technologies.8+ years’ experience working as a software developer.A Bachelors or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline.Self-motivated, co-operative team member abilities.The ability to work with global teams in a squad-oriented organization.Excellent communication skills, including written and spoken English.Strong and demonstrable programming skills in one or more modern computer languages such as, but not limited to, C#, Python, JavaScript, Node.js or REACT.Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.Knowledge and experience with data representation formats such as XML and JSON.Knowledge of cloud technologies, preferably AWS.Familiarity with ML/AI techniquesFamiliarity with design patterns.Familiarity with Agile methodologies.Familiarity with Security design and practice.

Desired Skills:

Experience with Prompt Engineering.Experience building Web Services.Experience developing cloud-based solutions, preferably in AWS, notably Lambda, SNS/SQS, S3, ECS, EC2.Experience with containers (Docker) and container orchestration and management.Experience in development of networked services (TCP, UDP, HTTP, etc.).Experience with .NET Core.Experience with C++ development.Experience with CI/CD.Experience with Automated Unit Testing.Experience with Elasticsearch and other NoSQL databases.Experience with MS SQL and/or MySQL.Experience with Linux or Unix.Experience with UX development.Low Latency Programming Concepts and Techniques.Asynchronous Programming and Threading Concepts.
