Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel, Corporate and Institutional Banking.

Principal Responsibilities

The role holder will be part of the legal team that provides legal advice and support to the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) business.

Principle responsibilities will include:

Provide legal support on all aspects of the CIB business to ensure that legal and reputational risks of the CIB business are proactively identified and mitigatedDraft, review and negotiate relevant contracts and transaction documentDevelop and maintain standard documentation templatesLiaise with and manage external counsel where necessary and in a cost-effective mannerCollaborate with internal stakeholders that support that CIB businessSupport local, regional and/or global projects and initiativesMonitor legislative changes and industry developments relevant to the CIB business

General responsibilities include:

To be the accountable lawyer to the executives of the area on all material legal issues that the business facesExecute against relevant policies and procedures for the relevant area of coverage to ensure that Legal's role in the second line of defence can be executedAdvising relevant Management on non-standard legal, and conduct and reputational risksEvaluating and responding to changes in legal and regulatory requirements as they ariseProvide expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risk of the relevant area are identified, reported and mitigatedIdentify new legal, regulatory and market developments that can affect business activities, and educate our business teams on how these developments may affect their businessEnsure senior legal management is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertiseDeliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial marketsMaintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with business managers, stakeholders and the Global Legal function Recommend selection of panel law firms and other appropriate external parties
