Your New Role
CNN is seeking a Senior Business Editor to join its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong to take a leading role in helping to shape the world’s biggest and most important stories at the intersection of business, economy and current affairs.
This is a role for an ambitious, capable and creative business journalist with outstanding news judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for breaking news and distinctive enterprise reporting that differentiates CNN.
Your Role Accountabilities
As Senior Business Editor you will lead the business news agenda for CNN during Asia hours across platforms, responding in real-time to unexpected developments and making decisive editorial decisions.
You’ll have proven high-level editing and reporting skills and the ability to distill complex ideas, bringing a deep understanding of tech, media, companies, markets and global and regional economies, as well as an eye for emerging regional trends.
You will have a broad portfolio and will be expected to move between reactive and proactive depending on the situation; commissioning, editing, framing, and writing editorial content for all of CNN’s platforms – including digital, broadcast and digital video; offering on air analysis, taking a lead in crafting original, distinctive news enterprise reporting about the companies, personalities, governments and technology driving the future of business; ensuring all journalism produced adheres to CNN standards and integrity; and communicating across teams on multi-region news, scoops and investigative projects.
Though the role is located in Asia-Pacific, you will be working as part of a global, 24/7 digital-first cross-platform team, providing a key editorial link between CNN’s US and Europe operations, including on occasional weekends.
Qualifications & Experience
A minimum of 8 years of business news editing and/or writing experience for leading digital-first outlets
A proven track record of editing and writing major breaking news; superior news judgement; and the ability to deliver in a highly pressurized, deadline driven environment
Exceptional planning and organizational skills with a demonstrable track record of executing detailed digital-first coverage plans
Heightened ability to identify business news and cultivate strong sources and areas of expertise
Experience conceiving and producing distinctive enterprise journalism, identifying unique reporting opportunites and/or investigative works
A passion for news and a deep knowledge of US national and international business – with a focus on Asia and China
The ability to think in headlines and smart framings, while considering the intended audience
College degree or equivalent industry experience
Perfect grasp of written and spoken English
Enthusiasm, flexibility and a desire to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment
