Job Purpose:
To ensure all incoming Raw Materials, Intermediates and Finished Products meet the pre-set specification in a timely manner by the efficient management of Quality Control Technicians and Senior Technicians.
To be responsible for the Supervision of a specific QC Department to ensure Raw Materials, Intermediates and finished Products all comply with the Quality Standards Specified in accordance with the companies ISO 9001 quality Management system.
Dimensions:
To be responsible for the Quality Control of – all batches of Raw Materials, Manufactured Intermediates and Finished Products within the specified QC laboratory.Ensure all raw materials/Intermediate and finished products are measured using prescribed Technical department standard operating procedures and Standard Test Methods.Ensure the Reporting of all results/findings are made in an accurate and concise manner.Establish corrective actions that may be required for non conforming products. Make direct corrections to Production batches using the Integrated Process Control and management system (Datastor). Make final acceptance decision on 1.7 million lts weekly production - £159,000,000 annually.To oversee the procurement of the required level of necessary laboratory consumables in the most cost-effective manner.To be responsible for the rejection of non-conforming raw materials, batches of finished products and intermediates and to ensure the necessary reporting and documentation is completed via a CAIR report where necessary.Principle Accountabilities:
To ensure that sufficient Quality Control staff are present for the requirements of the QC function to cover factory-working hours, including weekends. To ensure this is carried out in the most cost-effective manner.To ensure any non-conformance to specification is recorded and corrective action to achieve specification is undertaken and reported in a constructive and timely manner. To be responsible for process control from point of test. To be responsible for conceding approval of out of specification results using the Concession procedure.To ensure that all batches of incoming Raw Materials, Problem intermediates, Materials on hold, Manufactured Intermediates and Finished Products are examined and tested to the Specifications quoted. To ensure all non-conformities are analysed and the corrective action required is ascertained, implemented and reported in accordance with the companies ISO 9001 Quality Management System.To investigate and report on and correct any manufactured batch of paint, including successful application of documented drop off procedure. To make recommendations for any remedial action, liaising with Manufacturing Support / Development Lab/Supply chain when necessary.Make recommendations for successful allocation of rework material. Carry out rework allocation to scheduled batches to control rework stock using established SAP Rework system. Analyse, collate and report on a monthly basis the progress and rate of allocation of rework with a view to keeping the overall stock of rework to a minimum.To implement procedures and practices that ensure a clean and safe working environment is maintained. To effectively manage the departments “5 S” strategy via monthly audits. To be responsible for maintaining and improving the audited 5 s score.To oversee the implementation of Training of QC staff as per procedures, to improve quality within the department and efficiency in service. To review and facilitate the training and development needs of the QC staff.Ensure human resource issues are carried out efficiently and in accordance with company policy, including initial disciplinary measures. To carry out staff appraisals in accordance with HR guidelines.To make CAPEX recommendations for and be responsible for the successful introduction of new equipment within the laboratory in the most cost-effective mannerTo oversee the procurement (OPEX) of the required level of necessary laboratory consumables in the most cost-effective manner.To ensure all lab equipment has it calibrations within the specified time periods.To ensure the departments H&S assessments are maintained and up to date to promote / introduce HOP within QC.To be competent in the use and programming of the EMOK system.To be competent in the testing of the effluent plant, organise servicing of the system in the prescribed duration.Introduce ATP testing in QC, organising frequency compared to results. .To ensure QC department have an up to date BCP and that equipment and area set up ready for use. To update plan yearly.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed:
Minimum degree in Chemistry or associated discipline.Minimum 5 years in Paint or Associated industry, ideally in a Supervisory position or in possession of a suitable management qualification.Must attain BPI Accelerator status.Must have normal colour vision and good aptitude for colour evaluation.Have an expansive working knowledge of Paint Technology and Manufacturing Methods.Good interpersonal skills.Overtime may be required to cover Production outside normal working hours.Additional Features:
Co-ordinate projects to investigate improvements to testing methods.Delegated responsibility for the acceptance and issue of concession with respect to Finished Products and Raw Materials.To assist in the recruitment of staff liaising with QC Manager and Senior members of HR.To issue work permits for outside contractors following PPG procedures.
