Basic Requirements

Minimum 3 years' Engineering experience in a manufacturing environmentBachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this positionThis position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Processing Engineer for our Torrance, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California.  We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, optimize, and monitor plating processes including electroplating, electroless plating, anodizing, and surface preparation.Support daily production operations by troubleshooting process issues, investigating root causes, and implementing corrective actions.Ensuring the Heat Treat processes are performed in compliance with the methods, materials and equipment specifications as required for NADCAP Certification and as detailed in the BU Heat Treat manual, business operation, and customer requirements.Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards related to chemical processing and plating operations.Evaluate and qualify new materials, chemicals, and equipment for plating applications.Perform chemical analysis and control of plating baths to maintain consistent process parameters.Utilize SPC charts and maintain and improve process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process control plans.Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plating quality, throughput, and cost efficiency.Educate operators about plating procedures and best practices, including creating/revising work instructions and training materials.Work closely with R&D, quality, and manufacturing teams to support new product introductions (NPI) and process qualifications.Actively participate, promote and comply with all EHS programs and policies.Other duties as assigned
