Principal Technical Program Manager - Last Mile Route Planning and Inputs, Routing & Planning
Description Want to work in a start-up environment with the resources of Amazon behind you? Do you want to have direct and immediate impact on millions of customers every day? In this role, you will be a technical leader with massive impact. If you are a self-starter, enjoy building large scale distributed and orchestration systems, and are intrigued by ambiguous problems, look no further. The Last Mile Tech team is building the next generation of products and services that will fuel future growth of Amazon's Last Mile Delivery capability. Our team is driving innovations in developing and integrating new technology platforms (Robotics, Scout, EV etc.) and supporting international expansion at massive scale. This is a chance to be part of making history. We're seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager to be a part of our group. In this role you will be the single threaded leader owning programs to deliver complex projects across multiple Director/VP organizations. The role will work with a diverse set of stakeholders to drive automation and optimization including Maps & GeoTech, Amazon Flex (to enable ultra fast delivery), Delivery Service Partner teams, delivery execution tech and routing and planning. Responsibilities also include identifying business and tech requirements, partnering with various stakeholders, building tech roadmaps, and managing the production launch. You will own communication through various stages of the product lifecycle: from vision documents at inception, to reporting and business review updates through implementation, and launch. You will present and share these to broad audiences including engineering and business leadership, partner teams, and stakeholders. The right candidate will possess a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading large to extra-large programs, and will have a well-rounded technical background. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As a TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role. Key job responsibilities You are responsible for defining and delivering important programs with broad cross-organizational, cross-business, or significant technology impact. You handle ambiguity where the business and/or architectural strategy has not yet been defined. You consistently bring strong, data-driven, and strategic technical judgment to decisions. You assess risk, drive clarity, and foster shared understanding. You manage cross-functional communication to ensure all stakeholders are informed and needs aligned. You create the correct sense of urgency for delivery. You proactively drive business and system-level reviews, aligning teams toward coherent technology strategies and effective engineering processes. You identify gaps/opportunities in or between countries, architectures, and organizations (e.g., services, workflows, tooling). You decompose complex problems into straightforward solutions. You create, optimize, and drive adoption of the critical mechanisms necessary to ensure your program and/or product will be successful in the long-term. You effectively partner with all levels of leadership. You are adept at building consensus.
