Job Description

Operations Engineer (SS&C Technologies, Inc.; Windsor, CT): The Operations Engineer will provide services to the company’s clients by resolving technical and product functionality issues, including FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and SFTP (Secure File Transmission Protocol) configuration and troubleshooting; monitoring application availability and performance; coordinating/communication with various teams on tasks and escalations using Agile methodologies; participating in escalation/rotation support as part of the larger team; and supporting solutions that improve Advent’s/SS&C’s service offerings. Specific duties include: Manage Data Services encryption keys and certificates. Troubleshoot encryption/decryption of custodial data feeds. Deploy and retire FTP accounts used by custodial data account providers. Troubleshoot incoming feed issue reported by account providers and internal partners. Create/edit/deploy PowerShell scripts in support of daily operational tasks and department automation. Monitor multiple department SQL Server instances and subsequent hosted databases. Deploy/edit SQL tables, stored procedures, scheduled jobs, and maintenance plans as determined by the product development teams. Monitors system and application availability using mentioned company provided tools. Edit in-place monitors to accommodate new configurations and alerting requirements. Provide intermediate troubleshooting and be a technical resource during internal break/fix and outage events. Provide intermediate and advanced troubleshooting and be a technical resource for custodial data account providers reporting feed transmission or other data related issues. Monitor department ServiceNow and Jira queues and create/reassign tickets to document and track issues and requests. Create/join Teams/Zoom video conferences during application deployment and troubleshoot events. Participate in a department on-call schedule and provide first-team technical response during outages. Maintain emergency availability during assigned off-hours schedules. Telecommuting permitted.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field plus 4 years of experience in IT operations and supporting Windows servers.

Alternate requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field plus 2 years of experience in IT operations and supporting Windows servers. Pre- or Post-Master's experience is acceptable.

Must have: Working knowledge of Encryption tools such as PGP (Pretty Good Privacy software) and GNU (Privacy Guard). General understanding of SDLC principles and Agile methodologies. Knowledge of scripting technologies such as PowerShell, SQL (Structured Query Language). Experience troubleshooting Microsoft products and protocols. Experience with supporting complex internal and client facing environments. Experience working with enterprise applications. Excellent understanding and working knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and technologies, such as IIS, Active Directory, and File and Storage services. Excellent understanding of Microsoft SQL and a demonstrated proficiency scripting custom queries and stored procedures. Ability to coordinate with peers and clients to troubleshoot infrastructure, application, database, and network related issues. Ability to adopt and support new virtual and cloud solutions. Must be a team player – Recognizes the bigger picture and understands the value of teamwork. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, including experience with technical documentation.
