Key Responsibilities:
Production Scheduling & Capacity Management:
• Lead forward planning and scheduling of all machining operations to align with program timelines.
• Monitor and optimize equipment utilization; identify capacity gaps and recommend strategic improvements.
• Analyze shop loading trends and develop proactive solutions to reduce bottlenecks and downtime.
• Support quoting and new project reviews with accurate capacity data and forward-looking schedules.
Machine Data Tracking & Continuous Improvement:
• Implement and manage machine data tracking systems to support real-time reporting and improvement actions.
• Analyze production data to drive CI projects with measurable outcomes (OEE, scrap, cycle time, downtime).
• Develop and track action plans for improvement initiatives, ensuring accountability and timely completion.
• Report on machine shop KPIs weekly and provide visibility of top actions to senior leadership.
Team Leadership & Development:
• Provide daily leadership, coaching, and guidance to machinists and apprentices.
• Implement a structured apprenticeship/training program to develop internal skillsets and workforce flexibility.
• Promote a culture of responsibility, quality, and learning among the machine shop team.
• Work closely with Human Resources on performance management and succession planning.
Modernization & Shop Floor Excellence:
• Support digitization of the machine shop through paperless workflows, tool management systems, and visual dashboards.
• Lead 5S efforts across all machining zones; develop and sustain daily management routines and standards.
• Implement tiered team meetings to drive communication, alignment, and issue escalation.
• Prepare business plans and ROI justifications for capital equipment and tooling investments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Quality Support:
• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Tooling, and Production teams to support tool launches and revisions.
• Participate in cross-functional supervisor reviews to drive overall plant performance.
• Champion a quality-first mindset; support root cause investigations and preventative actions related to machining.
• Ensure proper documentation, process controls, and standard work exist and are followed on the floor.
Environmental, Health & Safety Responsibilities:
• Lead by example by following and enforcing all EH&S policies and procedures.
• Ensure risk assessments, lockout/tagout, and pre-shift inspections are followed consistently.
• Support and enforce safe work practices across all machines and personnel.
• Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action planning.
• Ensure appropriate training, certification, and authorization exists for all machining operations.
• Maintain compliance with environmental and safety reporting standards and support requirements.
Key Qualifications & Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in CNC machining operations and leadership within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong scheduling and organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience implementing and using machine data tracking systems (e.g., OEE software, ERP).
• Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement using lean tools, 5S, and KPI tracking.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and data literacy (Excel, dashboards, reporting tools).
• Strong leadership and communication skills; proven track record in team development and engagement.
• Ability to create business cases and justification packages for capital equipment.
• Working knowledge of tooling, machining processes, and manufacturing principles (MAFACT, lean).
• Familiarity with safety regulations, risk assessments, and operational standards.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment with cross-functional interactions.
