As JavaScript Engineering Manager (named “JavaScript Chapter Lead” in our organization) you are a technically skilled domain expert with the additional responsibility as line manager. You will contribute to common ways of working across the Software Engineering Chapter through methods and best practices according to standards, technologies and trends. Your core responsibilities will involve both technical leadership – contributing to and guiding the team's technical work – and the management and development of a team of JavaScript engineers at your location.

What you will do

 

As JavaScript Engineering Manager (JavaScript Chapter Lead) you are a technically skilled domain expert with the additional responsibility as line manager.

 

Key responsibilities:

As Technical lead in delivery or product teams in JavaScript, responsible for hands-on coding, conducting thorough code reviews, and driving initiatives to ensure high software quality and technical standards Lead, develop and attract a team of talented JavaScript engineers, supporting their personal growth and challenges on assignments Develop and execute the competence strategy for JavaScript engineers within your team, meeting with chapter members to discuss and drive excellence in areas such as best practices, frameworks and tools  Manage capacity planning, ensuring short and long-term competence and capacity of the JavaScript software engineers Work with stakeholders across the Volvo Group to be in line with changing business needs  Secure external input and best practice sharing in the community Secure agile ways of working Balance your time between line manager and delivery team member


You will be part of the Software Engineering Leadership Team and report to one of the Chapter Area Leads.

You are a passionate, professional and progressive leader with eyes on the horizon and feet on the ground. As a Team Leader you should enjoy building and motivating high-performing teams and actively participate in strategy and execution. You should act as a role model for leaders and individual engineers as we develop JavaScript domain and community
& You need to have several years of experience as a practitioner (SW Engineer) and be a technical expert in the JavaScript domain. Demonstrated leadership qualities to coach people or a few years´ experience of leading people, preferably in the JavaScript Domain is also crucial. Working with agile methodologies comes naturally to you. 

 

Your mission

Be a People manager, managing a team of software engineers Be a Technical expert (Full Stack developer Node.js + React.js) Be a driver for planning, developing and implementing user interface and product solutions Work with designers and software engineers to develop modern & intuitive applications Be a mentor/ coach for other developers and line members


Must-Have Skills

Minimum 10 years of total IT experience At least 2 years of people management experience Minimum 5 years of recent practical experience in Node.js microservice development, building APIs and scripts in Node.js environment Practical experience and knowledge of React.js Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions Well versed with technical standards and practices to ensure high software quality Enable development of high-performance applications by writing testable, reusable and efficient code Secure implementation of effective security protocols, data protection measures & storage solutions Knowledge of Progressive Web App principles Working experience in HTML5, CSS3 and responsive web design, Browser testing, troubleshooting and debugging Working knowledge of Azure Cloud Environment Platform Hands-on experience in code repository / CI&CD including GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitLab and others In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development & deployment) Focus on continuous code improvements to optimize performance 

Other skills 

Experience with compensation and talent management Have done coaching or mentorship Self-motivated and motivates others Works well independently and as part of the team Experience in SCRUM methodology Excellent communication skills and resilience Customer oriented and proactive problem solver Location:
