About the Role

The Enterprise Data Steward sits within the Enterprise Data & Analytics team under Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) and reports to the Director of Data Governance. We work closely with the Elsevier Data Catalog (EDC) team and collaborate on many occasions.

Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, the Enterprise Data Steward has a multi-functional role which will include leading the Data Steward Community, managing and supporting the growth of the Enterprise Business Glossary/ Enterprise Data Assets on our Elsevier Data Catalog, and supporting the EDG team as we promote EDG engagement, adoption & enablement.

Success is measured against continuous engagement amongst the Data Steward Community,  adoption of Enterprise Data Governance, the usage of EDC for enterprise terms and metrics, and growth of the Data Governance bodies across Elsevier.

Responsibilities

Lead, support & mentor the Elsevier Data Steward Community: As the Enterprise Data Steward, you will be responsible for leading the Data Steward Community here at Elsevier. You will onboard new data stewards, support current ones and provide a structure of mentorship to enable their education, growth and success. As the leader in this community you will chair, manage & run DS Forums, Regional Connects and Doctor Sessions

Own the Enterprise Business Glossary in Elsevier Data Catalog (EDC): The Enterprise Data Steward is accountable for the Enterprise Business Glossary - which includes identifying, defining, cataloguing, obtaining agreement & annual reviews on all Enterprise-wide business terms and acronyms

Supervise maintenance and quality of all data & glossary assets in the Elsevier Data Catalog (EDC), supporting data stakeholders and driving adoption, satisfaction and value. This will include coordinating  the definition and cataloguing of critical data elements in EDC for Enterprise data. Responsible for identifying data assets within the Enterprise data domains. This will include documenting end to end lineage of the data. You will recommend consistent standards across the business. Develop business term and data element naming conventions, data definitions, standard calculations and business rules

Support Director of Data Governance in management and administration of EDG processes & activities: provide administrative support on all data governance processes and activities, such as regular management & upkeep of Data Governance Bodies, stakeholder engagement, EDG reporting & dashboards, Data Set Audits, EDG processes, upkeep of EDG SharePoint site, etc)

Deliver data management collateral/ knowledge base and support the creation of, review and deliver agreed data management collateral (e.g.: standards, guidance, policies, knowledge, learning, etc) to promote EDG engagement, adoption & enablement

Requirements

A passion for Data & Analytics with experience of applying knowledge in Data Governance, Data Quality, and Metadata Management practices

Experience working within a data team as an analyst, modeller, or data steward and have had experience in leading data activities

Strong communication & interpersonal skills, written and verbal, including the ability to work effectively at other people’s level of confidence

Practical knowledge of and user experience in a Data Governance Tool. Collibra Preferred

Display understanding of Enterprise data management concepts, principles and practices including database structures, enterprise data catalog, and operational data quality. Able to demonstrate an awareness of the security, privacy, and quality requirements for critical data elements

Able to collaborate with groups of people from diverse backgrounds, skill levels and located across the global business

Proactive approach and attention to detail are mandatory requirements in this role
