Director, Network Compliance (Advisory)

The Network Compliance Director performs a key risk management role in the second line of defense for Capital One’s network and merchant businesses to help ensure corporate initiatives and business processes comply with applicable laws and regulations.  While working within the Compliance Management Program framework, the Network Compliance Director is responsible for leading and delivering quality results, providing compliance advice to lines of business as a subject matter expert, and serving as a beacon of our culture of compliance.

 

The Compliance Advisor Director supports the line of business by:

Advising business leaders on regulatory requirements

Providing guidance on business policies, standards, and procedures

Developing and leading department training, as appropriate

Providing compliance advice to senior leaders on complex business projects, products, and initiatives

Providing guidance on controls over regulatory requirements and line of business monitoring of those controls

Reviewing business controls and providing guidance on identified risks

Responsibilities:

Maintain subject matter expertise in the broader payments industry and applicable laws and regulations

Provide effective challenge and guidance on compliance risks for the network and merchant businesses through both formal and informal engagements

Proactively identify trends in business data and advise on network payments compliance risks, including emerging external risks

Partner with compliance testing teams to plan for and develop compliance tests of business activities, and review and assess test outcomes 

Develop strong relationships with Business Risk, Legal, and Audit peers to support the business’s identification and mitigation of compliance risks

Support regulatory exam and engagement preparation and delivery 

Evaluate issues and events for compliance impacts

Manage, develop, and coach a Compliance Advisory Team in support of their job responsibilities and to further their careers

Advise lines of business on application of compliance requirements to business expansions and new products, including as the network and merchant businesses engage with new downstream entities, evaluate new industries for card acceptance, or develop new products

Advise business on controls and monitoring, remediation/corrective actions, compliance impacts to changes in processes and procedures, and changes in applicable law or regulation

Assist lines of business in their responsibilities under the compliance program, such as how to monitor, report, and train on areas of potential risk

Conduct targeted validations and reviews on controls for applicable regulations

Assist in capturing, maintaining, and analyzing compliance data, and in interpreting it to ensure consistency and adequate compliance risk management

Participate in reporting activities to senior leadership in the business and Risk Management

Basic Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree or military experience

At least 8 years of legal, compliance or risk management experience OR at least 7 years of regulatory experience in consumer financial services or payments industry  

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree, including Juris Doctorate or Master’s degree

5+ years of people management experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Chicago, IL: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Compliance


 

McLean, VA: $200,100 - $228,400 for Director, Compliance


 

New York, NY: $218,300 - $249,100 for Director, Compliance


 

Richmond, VA: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Compliance


 


 


 


 


 


 


 

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
