Job Description

The Director, Global Environment, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) Operations will provide leadership and strategic direction to drive EHSS excellence across Fortune Brands Innovations. Responsibilities include driving execution of requirements across operations, products, and geographic regions, developing a multi-year roadmap, and leading the team to develop and implement systems to drive programs, execution, and improvements across the Company.  This position will engage with internal and external leaders and stakeholders.

Position location: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based out of Deerfield, IL. Effective mid-2025, Fortune Brands will transition to a new world-class campus in Deerfield, bringing together associates from across our U.S. offices, brands, and functions. The campus will offer vibrant workspaces for collaboration, along with amenities for dining, onsite daycare, fitness and recreation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build a future-state vision for EHSS operations and develop a clear, multi-phased approach to execution in alignment with the FBIN EHSS strategic plan; lead a team of regional EHSS experts to support and ensure execution of the plan.Drive implementation of EHSS policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with all relevant Company requirements and government rules and regulations; provide high-level leadership, support, consistency, and guidance in the following areas:Program implementationEHSS laws and regulationsProjects and governanceInformation and data recording and reportingEHSS event investigation, learning teams, and corrective actionsBest practice sharingPartner with operational leadership to develop EHSS improvement strategy; provide and analyze data, trends, benchmarking, and other relevant data to help set priorities; manage assessment process for critical EHSS risk areas and drive sustainable improvements; identify, develop and/or lead EHSS improvement initiatives across the organization that reduce risk and drive cultural change.Provide ongoing support, along with the rest of the EHSS Operations team, to FBIN associates and facilities for current and emerging EHSS issues, partnering with other experts from the Corporate EHSS team as appropriate; provide direct support as needed to ensure global coverageIdentify, assess, and escalate critical risks and issues as appropriate (e.g. to EHSS, Legal, Operational leadership)Prioritize and manage EHSS Capital budget; pulse progress and intervene as needed to drive project completion or reprioritization.Manage and execute EHSS review and approval process for CERs; work with site EHSS to ensure appropriate planning and permitting are incorporated in project plans.Provide subject matter expertise and input to EHSS policies, procedures, and programs in support of overall Company EHSS operating system and ESG goals.Lead engagement with applicable regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders when required; represent FBIN as subject matter leader with external stakeholders; liaise with internal and external counsel and subject matter experts on EHSS projects, matters, and regulations.Work closely with the EHSS Program leaders to monitor and understand emerging trends in EHSS programs and requirements; work with other SMEs to develop short- and long-term strategies to ensure adequate preparedness and response.Train, mentor, and develop EHS resources and leadership with respect to EHSS programs, requirements, and risks.Support for non-supply chain EHSS needs in region – offices, ESG, HR, etc.

QualificationsBachelor’s degree required, preferably in Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field15+ years of related experience required, including leading EHSS programs in a manufacturing environment; experience with global operations and regulations and requirements requiredAdvanced knowledge of the EHSS regulations and experience with complex organizational structures, permits, and culturesExtensive experience conducting EHSS audits and compliance assessmentsExperience leading complex incident investigationsExperience leading teams required (global teams preferred)Demonstrated experience engaging people across organizations and building a culture of EHSS excellence requiredTeam player with the ability to think conceptually, flexibly, and strategicallyStrong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skillsAbility to travel both domestically and internationally without restriction; ability to travel up to 35%Professional EHSS certifications preferred

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $142,000 USD - $218,900 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
