BASIC REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. A minimum of 3 years tooling design and fabrication experience. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution in the following disciplines preferred: Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology. Fluency with CAD/CAM software, preferably with Siemens NX. CNC programming knowledge a plus Working knowledge of standard tool room equipment Experience or familiarity with additive manufacturing Sound understanding of engineering drafting principles Ability to collaborate with die makers regarding design for manufacturing Experience in the design of tooling for injection molding Good verbal communication skills. Knowledge of material properties, as related to die design. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software. Ability to effectively work/communicate as part of a project team. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and activities. Strong problem-solving acumen.Located in Whitehall, Michigan, the Tooling Design Engineer position will be located in the Howmet Research Center and is responsible for the mechanical design of development and prototype injection molding dies and manufacturing fixtures. The individual may work independently or as part of a design team to satisfy customer requirements. Provides data and documentation necessary for the manufacture of tooling.
Primary Responsibilities:
Interprets customer part and tooling specifications provided. Creates 3D solid CAD models with Siemens NX, Unigraphics to meet customer specifications. Potentially engage in CNC programming activities Coordinates with other tool designers, CNC programmers or Die Makers to develop manufacturing plan. Creates engineering drawing details as required for manufacturing. Collaborates with the customers and Howmet Product/Process Engineers for design development and final approvals. Maintains all required project documentation, approvals, process flow, time logs, etc. Meets deadlines for scheduled deliverables, ie design submittals/approvals, material acquisitions as needed, and tooling completion
