Primary Purpose of the Role:
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a key part of a highly professional Commercial team within the Underwater Systems business based at Cheadle, Crawley, or Templecombe (also located in other South-East and South-West locations in England).
The role of the Contracts Manager will be responsible for the Contract Management on a number of projects and bids including its governance within an assigned business sector within the Legal and Contracts function in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and in accordance with Thales policies and directives.
The Contracts Manager is responsible for the commercial management of Contracts and Bids as assigned over the contract life cycle from prospects, bidding to negotiation, contract award and contract closure. Most specifically to deliver the aims and objectives set for the commercial function by the Head of Contracts.
This person will be supporting complex technology contracts and bids, in a high-profile sector of the business. Contract values typically exceed £30M, and this opportunity supports career development, skills enhancement and exposure within the organisation. Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
The Role Holder will carry out some or all (as may be relevant) of the following activities:
Manage all contractual aspects within an assigned sector with due regard to Compliance, Governance, Group-wide actions, Agreements (cooperation and strategic), Contracts.
Support to contract negotiation and Manage Contracts within an assigned sector and any other ad-hoc tasks arising from time to time from the prospect and bid preparation phases, legal memo’s, negotiations, contract management through to contract closure including identifying and managing all commercial risks and opportunities.
Support and participate in the business strategy, liaise with customers for all communication following ITT, RFP, ITN, review and provide proactive business support in the winning of bids and thus prepare winning commercial proposals/quotations, including but not limited to: draft contract commentary, input to bid risk assessments and commercial and pricing strategy.
Draft, propose, generate, negotiate agreements, contracts, orders, proposals, quotations, changes and terms and conditions in accordance with the agreed strategy and customer requirement.
Provide a pro-active participation in the business supporting the winning of bids and close support to Capture Leaders, Bid Managers and Project/ Programme Managers.
Negotiate and agree Collaboration Agreements (Non-Disclosure Agreements, Teaming Agreements, Royalty/ IP Agreements).
Serve as a focal point of contact for customers and partners regarding contractual matters by establishing good customer relationships and communications with emphasis on achieving highly performing Customer Relationship scores.
Ensure a robust contractual baseline is established and maintained including the active management of contractual change and contract amendments.
Provide guidance on compliance with terms and conditions identifying flow down terms and risk by supporting the negotiation of major subcontracts.
Identifying potential liabilities and disputes and support the development of appropriate mitigation plans.
Ensure maintenance of appropriate contractual records and files as well as provide regular reports/briefs as required.
Promote, ensure and adhere to governance procedures, functional policies, processes, procedures and other relevant processes and procedures.
Liaise with and provide sound advices to all stakeholders.
Support to the Head of Contracts on any other tasks as required.
Security Clearance requirement:
Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a sole British National from birth and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
