Summary of this Role

As a Cloud Engineer for Global Payments, you will design, develop, test and maintain cloud infrastructure-as-code, infrastructure pipelines and configuration management to enable resilient, reliable and repeatable operation of various cloud-based products. You will work on multiple projects in an Agile team and be responsible for all phases of infrastructure delivery and operation. In addition, you may assist in onboarding new applications into our environment and migrating existing applications into standardized deployment models that meet Enterprise wide policy.

Your skills will be needed in developing and maintaining cloud infrastructure to grow profitability and market share. Including but not limited to: optimizing infrastructure deployment pipelines; automating manual and repetitive activities; researching new technology; providing proof-of-concept demonstrations and much more.

Teamwork is an important part of our success, and as a Cloud Engineer you will be expected to work effectively with many different functional roles in our organization as well as working closely with your immediate teammates.

What Are The Core Responsibilities for this Role?

Implementing infrastructure-as-code and configuration management best practices and patterns

Designing and implementing automation pipelines for infrastructure-as-code based on best practices and standard patterns (e.g. CI/CD, Infrastructure/Configuration Deployments, Automated Pipelines)

Ensuring our environment configuration and tooling as implemented meet Corporate standards for Security and Compliance

Providing recommendations on system and process improvements, scaling improvements, disaster recovery, system resiliency improvements, modernization

Responding to operational issues to ensure maximum uptime and performance of Application workload our environments support

Pragmatically balancing between market deliverables, strategic vision and sustainable implementations

Contributing to project plans for key initiatives where pertains to Cloud Engineering or Operations

Contributing to the long term technical strategy for our platforms beyond immediate product roadmaps

Document designs and operational runbooks to share knowledge of platform environments you deliver and support

Mature Cloud engineering processes and procedures so we are continuously improving the service we offer our internal and external customers

What Are We Looking For in This Role?Minimum Qualifications

4+ years of IT experience (Computer Science degree and/or technical certifications preferred)

Thorough understanding of at least one public cloud service (e.g. AWS, Azure)

At least 2 years of engineering experience in Public Cloud or Hybrid Cloud Environments

Experience with Pipeline Automation Tools (e.g. Git, Azure DevOps, GitLab, Github)

Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation)

Experience with Configuration Management tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef)

Experience with Observability tools, monitoring and alerting (e.g. DataDog, CloudWatch, ELK, Dynatrace, etc.)

Experience analyzing application performance patterns and implementing auto-scaling rules to maximize application performance while balancing cloud costs

Proficiency with at least one scripting language in Windows or Linux environments ( e.g. Bash, Powershell, etc.)

Experience working with containerized workloads and migrating workloads to containers

Experience modernizing monolithic applications in the cloud

Experience with deploying and troubleshooting Load-Balancing and Distributed Networking technologies (e.g. Cloud Services, Hashicorp Consul, Nomad, Kubernetes Ingress)

Experience building Disaster Recovery processes and associated automation

Ability to build strong relationships in order to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with at least one programming language (e.g. JavaScript, C#, Ruby, Python, etc.)

Experience building and managing Kubernetes clusters, especially in AKS or EKS

Experience solving problems related to Secrets Management

Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL database technologies

Solving Problems related to deployment of Code Configuration

Experience with different Git Strategies ( GitOps, GitFlow, Release Flow, Trunk-Based, etc.)

Experience with SRE practices and competencies 

Experience with API Management tools (e.g. Apigee, Mulesoft, Azure API Management, etc.)

Experience working as a Backend or Full Stack Developer
