Automation & Digitalisation Specialist

Purpose

The automation and digitalisation champion will be responsible for the implementation and execution of the Territories Automation and Digitalization strategy in line with providing our customers with value added services including:

Role Scope

Automation:

The incumbent will be required to:

Learn, acquire knowledge, and master machine instrumentation, controls, and automation implementation. Act as a technical specialist, providing first line support in resolving customers automation challenges. Be a factory liaison on issues pertaining to potential software updates /upgrades to the systems. Handle all customer automation hardware challenges and to keep abreast with all hardware upgrades. Share all bulletin information regarding software / hardware upgrades or changes. Carry out period machine software change audits and to harmonize all changes to the client requirements. Be responsible for implementing / installing all necessary automation components such as field instrumentation, communication buses, PLC, and HMI. Facilitate the interface requirements between Sandvik platforms with customer servers

Digitalisation:

The incumbent will also implement the business strategy inline digitalization to:

Harness the power of big data and convert it into useful information. Analyze machine generated data to provide insights which help customer decision making regarding remotely monitored components. (E.g. Engines and transmissions) Provide machine-based condition monitoring and ensure that clients receive timely communication on machine generate faults and recommendation to return machine to recommended performance standards. Train client personnel on the utilization of software applications in line with Sandvik Big Data Platforms such as my Sandvik Productivity and FDM. To build up systems that automate internal packages to reduce mundane and repetitive task such as implementation of RPA tools.

Maintenance

To schedule timely preventative maintenance on software and hardware components.

COMPETENCIES

Technical Expertise in Automation & Control Systems

Proficiency in PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems for mining equipment automation. Knowledge of sensor integration and industrial control networks. Ability to troubleshoot, program, and optimize automated mining systems.

Digitalization & Data Analytics

Experience in IoT-based smart mining technologies. Understanding of big data analytics, cloud computing, and AI-driven process optimization. Capability to implement real-time monitoring & predictive maintenance systems.

Mining Equipment & Process Knowledge

In-depth understanding of drilling, excavation, crushing, and material handling automation. Familiarity with autonomous haulage systems (AHS) and remote operations. Ability to optimize mining workflows using digital solutions.

Cybersecurity & Industrial Networking

Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity protocols to protect automated systems. Expertise in network security for remote mining operations. Ability to manage data integrity and secure communications.

Problem-Solving & Innovation

Strong ability to troubleshoot mining automation issues efficiently. Creativity in developing innovative solutions for digital mining challenges. Proactive approach in improving energy efficiency and system reliability.

Project Management & Stakeholder Collaboration

Experience in leading digitalization projects in mining environments. Ability to collaborate with engineering teams, vendors, and mine operators. Skilled in budgeting, scheduling, and ensuring project milestones are met.

Compliance & Safety Standards

Familiarity with mining automation regulations and environmental policies. Commitment to enhancing worker safety through digital control systems. Understanding of ISO, IEC, and mining industry safety standards.

Your Profile:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in: Electrical Engineering: Mechatronics Engineering Automation & Control Systems Engineering Robotics & Automation Industrial Digitalization Mining Technology & Systems The candidate should have a minimum of three years working experience with industrial automation particularly in heavy plant equipment
