Position Summary:
An opportunity exists for an experienced professional to join the R2R organization of Global Business Services. This role will be responsible for leading a team responsible for Cash&Bank activities, inclusive of daily and weekly bank statement posting, outgoing payment allocation, external and in-house bank account reconciliation, cash pooling, managing manual payments, monthly and annual close and Balance Sheet Reconciliations of cash accounts for business divisions supported by the GBS site. The objective of this role is to lead Cash&Bank Accounting teams to partner with other areas of Thermo Fisher Scientific to ensure that business objectives are sufficiently met.
The successful candidate must be prepared to take ownership of the cash accounting for the entities delivering accurately and timely results to be reported both internally and externally. They must be experienced at working in a large multi-national; sophisticated structure and demonstrate themselves as a knowledge leader in the Record To Report team and have excellent people leader skills. The person joining the role will be a highly motivated and detail oriented individual with excellent communication, computer and interpersonal skills relevant to the role. The candidate must be high-potential and have the ability to prioritize and follow through in a fast-paced, multitask environment.
Key Responsibilities:Understand the functionality, interfaces, and interdependencies of Thermo Fisher’s financial processes and systems; ensure the existence of adequate internal controls where necessary.Provide insight to management on business performance through metrics within processes.Monitor and control activities related to processing systems to assure accurate accounting reporting and system controls.Prepare reports of findings and recommendations to GBS leadership.Provide monthly presentation on all cash clearing/disbursement/cash in transit account balances and related metrics, with commentaryMonitor the execution of period end financial close activities and meet all related deadlines.Close partnership with EMEA and US Treasury teams.Be an independent contributor for a component of the General Accounting function inclusive of bank reconciliation, outgoing payment allocation, cash clearing entries, manual payment, cash accounting and issue resolution.Review and approve manual payments, journal entries and balance sheet reconciliationsHandle accounting policy and procedure inquiries and ad hoc reporting and analysis requests; provide periodic customer / center training.Ensure customer needs and relationships are fulfilled and improved through proactive involvement and interaction.Develop and assist in automating processes using innovative technical and processing solutions.Maintain complete and accurate standard operating procedures.Drive accuracy of the balance sheet through balance sheet account reconciliations, open item management and best accounting practice in the team.Ensure compliance with Corporate Accounting policies, procedures and controls (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).Support requests from external and internal auditors as well as various groups companywide.Complete special projects as requested.Drive career development in team.Ad Hoc projects as the need arises.Skills Required: Strong written and verbal skills enabling effective communication at various levels inside and outside the organization.Solid understanding of our core ERPs (SAP/Oracle).Ability to operate independently and remain focused through change or uncertainty, and capable of handling multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.An ability to handle conflict in a fast paced Team environment.The ability to guide, inspire and empower your team to achieve their full potential.Proven commitment to education and professional development.Proficiency in PC skills (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.Strong interpersonal, analytical thinking, and organizational skills.Accuracy is required in performing all aspects of the role.Ability to drive growth through excellent decision making.Proficient in English.Demonstrate Thermo Fisher Scientific values – Integrity, Intensity, Innovation and Involvement.Education and Experience: University or College Degree in Accounting field.Recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CPA, CIMA) / International qualification (US GAAP) is an advantage.3+ years of related Cash&Bank / Intercompany accounting or Treasury/AR related experience; prior experience in Shared Services preferred, experience in any other accounting area is a plus.Minimum 1-2 years of management and supervisory experience.Experience with Hyperion/FDMEE preferred.Experience working in a large corporate environment.
